You might have an MDAC problem. You can diagnose this by downloading and
installing the MDAC Component Checker from http://www.microsoft.com/data. If
all your MDAC components, registry keys, etc are OK, the only "errors"
you'll get are messages that the versions of some files are newer than
expected. If you've got other problems, you'll need to reinstall MDAC.
Unfortunately, you can't do this directly, as you could with NT 4. The way I
did this was to put in the Win2K CD, select "Upgrade your operating system",
let it run for about half an hour, then reinstall any third-party device
drivers.
Chris Chambers suggested using the Windows File Checker to fix this, and
that sounds like a good suggestion, although I don't know if it works for
MDAC. If it doesn't work, follow the above-described approach. From a
command prompt, type:
sfc /scannow
If MDAC isn't the problem, then I'm out of ideas. I'm running both
successfully on Win2K Server.
