I'm passing this problem from a colleague: I tried to upgrade a test machine from CF SERVER 4.0.1 to 4.5 using a CD provided by Allaire. The test machine is Windows 98. I'm using the single user enterprise version of CF 4.0.1. When I tried to install the server upgrade, I get error messages that I do not have the required permissions or the setup program cannot stop a Web Server. The message further stated to manually stop all servers and try again. The install terminated at that point The only programs running in the background (verified by CNTRL-ALT-DELETE) are Explorer and Systray. The nightmare then began. The install program removed cfserver.exe so I was left without a server. I had to use CONTROL PANEL - ADD/REMOVE then re-install CF SERVER 4.0.0.0 then try to upgrade to 4.0.1 using a patch file downloaded from ALLAIRE. This 4.0.1 patch would not install and gave me the same error message about permissions and web servers running. The 4.5 CD is labeled ColdFusion 4.5 Upgrade CD for WIndows (US) AG-45UPG-RK The Allaire web based installation support area was not helpful. Now I'm stuck with version 4.0.0.0 when I wanted to go from 4.0.1 to 4.5. followed by the patch from 4.5 to 4.5.1. This is a horrible way to "UPGRADE!" Any ideas would be appreciated. -- Frank C.
