I found a solution.  I edited the CF_NoTags custom tag from Allaire's site.
I had it search for "<cf" instead of just plain "<" and it worked like a
charm.  It removes all "<cf ... >" tags, but leaves the HTML.  It does leave
all of the "</cf ... >" tags behind, but they don't show up when the text is
displayed.

Problem solved.
