This will keep the background from repeating.  The way you have it below
only keeps the image from scrolling with the page.  Keep in mind that the
above solution only works in IE.  As for centering the image or lightening
it you will need an image editor for that.  Like Adobe Photoshop, etc...

After trying the code I am getting the whole page
filled with multiple copies of the same image. Is
there a way to have only one image in the background,
and that too in the center of the screen.

Also, if someone could tell me if there is a way to
fade the image (since the image is very bright and it
is interfering with the text), it would be great.
