You must have office installed on whatever server is making an instance of
the COM object. In a simple environment this means having Office installed
on your web server. In a complex envioronment this means having a dedicated
MTS server (Microsoft Transaction Server) with Office installed that you use
remotely on your web server (i.e. objects execute on MTS server, controlled
by web server).
I have written a few VB COM objects that take form fields from the web and
use the data to do mail merges in Word. I have seen other people do things
with the Office Web Components:

A good book is "Instant ASP Components". It talks about this in general and
has a chapter on using Word and Excel as components.
Best of luck,

Subject: office COM
I've seen mentioned earlier on the list using MS Office products as COM
objects == can anyone point me towards more information on this? Is it
server extensions only available in 2k?
Thanks,
je
