a few things to check that I have seen cause this: 1. Make sure your temp files are big enough for your OS 2. Make sure you have ample free disk available 3. If you have any access databases connected, take them all offline, compact and repair and then bring them back online.
Those three items are often the route of the evil you are experiencing.
