I have to make a correction here, as I was in error: My apologies to Crystaltech for mentioning them here...they are indeed a decent hosting partner and I have only good things to say about them. The problem has been solved and it was my own fault.
(And no, they're not asking me to say this). Anyways, thanks to all who responded, the problem was a faulty DNS entry at Register.com which for some reason made things work now and then...and I didn't catch it with a tracert...these things can be difficult to spot if you're not a webmaster expert!
