Cool! I changed the order, as you recommended and it works. Interesting
though that CFMX broke, while CF 5 didn't.

Also, the order of your classes should be

link
visited
hover
active

Otherwise the cascade may be negating the hover effect. It could also be
some other cascading effect in the rest of your style sheet.
