I am absolutely, completely biased in everything I say regarding
BlueDragon, so I'll try to stick to the "facts" and leave opinions to
others.  :-)

BlueDragon is two things: (1) a standalone CFML server, implemented in
Java, that is a complete alternative to Macromedia's ColdFusion Server;
and, (2) a CFML interpreter implemented as a standard Java servlet that
can be packaged to allow you to deploy CFML pages as standard J2EE web
applications.

Here are the top three reasons to consider BlueDragon as an alternative
to ColdFusion MX. I can elaborate on these if you wish, but will keep it
short here:

  1. Deploy CFML pages in standard J2EE web applications (WAR files)
onto BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, and other standard J2EE servers
without installing proprietary Allaire/Macromedia ColdFusion Server
software.

  2. Deploy CFML pages as compiled binaries instead of CFML source.

  3. Cost-effective integration of CFML with JavaServer Pages (JSP) and
Java Servlets ($5000/server for ColdFusion Enterprise versus $549/server
for BlueDragon Server JX).
