You may wish to search the archives of this list for information on working
with Paypal. While my own experience with them has not been too rocky, a
number of other developers have noted serious issues working with the
company.

Back in 1999, I worked on a similar project for a group of physicians
selling medical supplies and academic materials online. One office was a
supplier of the medical supplies, and one office distributed the academic
materials. The two sets of products went together logically, but the two
businesses were completely separate.

What ended up happening is the two physicians, with the help of their
lawyer, set up an LLC to handle the finances and divided the revenue
generated from the site between the two offices based on the actual costs
involved.

The point of this story: the solution may not be technological in nature.
While I could see someone setting up a new Paypal account to handle the
transactions, I find it hard to believe there is a way to 'split' the
results of a Paypal transaction into two or more separate accounts.
Considering the fact each transaction must be authorized explicitly by the
purchaser, the user interface for such a thing would probably be a ghastly
thing to see.

You may want to suggest a traditional merchant account with Verisign as an
alternative.

Hello Everyone,

I have a colleague who wants me to design a site for him. The concept is
one already being used, he has a list of people who want him to provide
a virtual storefront for them. The site would provide a place for
vendors to input their information and products. He wants to use PayPal
for the processing and payment of products. However if a user purchases
a product from multiple vendors, I am unsure how that would be worked
out. I am in the very initial stages of this project and would kindly
take any advice from anyone who could offer some. Is there a Coldfusion
extension out there that can assist me?
