As always, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Whether or not anyone considers Informix to be a 'mainstream' database is
not really the issue (for that matter, I am uncertain what you really mean
when you say 'mainstream' - I hope this is not a synonym for 'commercial').
All I meant to suggest was that there are alternatives to using Verity which
could make a MX / OSX solution a viable and attractive prospect.

If Informix lacks some essential feature Verity possesses, there are a
number of other products organizations considering an OSX solution might
want to look at as well, especially Postgres and SAPDB. The former is
deployed widely in a number of large enterprises I know of, is open source,
and the fact it runs natively on UNIX makes it especially attractive.

There might indeed be databases that support full text indexing of
non-ascii text. However, the mainstream databases don't do this without
add-ons. For example, Oracle has an add-on that allows you to do full
digital asset management.

BTW, I don't consider Informix to be a mainstream database. You are
welcome to disagree of course. I only consider Oracle, SQL Server, and
DB2 to be mainstream databases.
