I have been running  now for 8 years my own company. Get one very good 
client. Do good work & on time -cost effectively - and client referrals 
will typically be all you need.To date I have not advertised or cold 
called once - and in 8 years have enough work to last a few months at 
any given time.

A kick ass prodcut will also help quite a bit!
