Actually, For Linux, the  bin file is a shell script, followed by a 
compressed file that contains all kinds of stuff, including another 
shell script...

This is how the installer controls for which platforms it will 
decompress and install.

It is quite ingenious... I tried, off and on, for several weeks to 
break the code to "let it install" on Darwin (Mac OS X) -- no luck

I have seen the same approach used where the shell script launches a 
Java program as a GUI for the rest of the install.
