I'd been under the impression that their lawsuit only succeeded ( or largely
anyway ) because someone had already paid their licensing fee, which then
gave them the ability to say "see, if other people can have it for free,
then we're going to get sued by our customers, because we sold them a
legitimate product" ... which is rediculous because it's not a legitimate
product -- it's not a product at all... not to mention the fact that it's
not Amazon's fault if someone is stupid and decides to pay them money for
something that they could do themselves without spending any money and all
this crap is the kind of thing that should be thrown out of court these days
for being a "frivolous lawsuit" in the first place, but then as long as the
lawyers have money that never happens...

Calling something "technology" is another story all-together and you get
into semantics -- which is a great and wonderful thing, but not really
apropriate for this list per se... Really you can call anything "technology"
assuming that someone has designed and built it and that it functions in a
reasonably consistent manner. Whether a technology is patentable or
copyrightable (or both) is another issue alltogether... One-click shopping
isn't actually a technology tho, because there's no underlying technical
spec for it, it's just saying that the user only has to use one button or
mouse click to get from point a to point b, but the underlying mechanics of
that may vary wildly. The underlying mechanic is a technology, "one-click"
is not.

here's a great article about patent office stupidity.
