Jeff, I am currently looking into the same problem that you are running into. I have found that DB2 Connect provides JDBC access to the AS400. http://www-3.ibm.com/software/data/db2/db2connect/
The personal edition runs $237 and the enterprise runs $2500. You can call IBM at 1-800-426-2255 I am still waiting for the DB2 software to test the interaction with it and Cold Fusion.
