Thought I'd share the following items which have been submitted to MM via a
direct contact a few minutes ago.

I have tried several different scenarios with the following results:

JDBC driver
-----------

I've only managed to get this to work with MS SQL 7 when and ONLY when its a
fresh OS, CFMX, SQL install, all on the same machine. Not yet been tested
for stability.

I've even had problems with using the ODBC Socket at times - especially when
the db is on a remote machine.
I realise these are not under MM's direct control and are more likely than
not to be attributed to SQL 7.

Installation issues
-------------------
I initially installed on our development machine which was previously
running cf4.5 ENT which I removed entirely, including registry and files, as
I'd experienced problems before with installing cf5 pro onto a similar cf4.5
ent machine. In fact there has always been a problem when installing a new
release "pro" version over a machine having had Enterprise installed - this
is understandable.

Although my initial installation of CFMX was fine after having to manually
configure CF to run on all IIS virtual hosts, I ran into a COM related
problem which led me to installing the updater, which in turn led my server
to spiral out of control (JDBC, 404's in the Administrator!!, 500's and
more). I believe the iis configuration was only necessary because of having
had cf4.5ent installed on the server.

I was able to dig up a spare machine on which I could do a complete fresh
install of OS, SQL 7 and CFMX, including the updater and things seem to be
looking up. Not had any problems whatsoever. There was no need for me to
configure IIS for virtual hosts in this situation. There was one major
problem which would disable our company to use CFMX in production. That is
the JDBC driver being unable to connect to SQL 7 on a remote machine (same
LAN).

We haven't yet gone into production, which leaves me in a slightly more
luxurious position than some of the others experiencing the same problems
and I doubt we'll be using SQL 7 in production anyway. More likely to be SQL
2000, which I'll begin tests on now to check if the JDBC situation is any
better.

Hope some of this info helps MM pinpoint the problem. In the meantime,
perhaps some mention of avoiding installing CFMX on machines with previous
versions may be a prudent move, or at least an indication that problems
*may* occur in this scenario, as each environment will be slightly different
and lots of people may get away without any problems in this very same
scenario.
