Michael,

This is a loooong shot... (and in the dark too) but try and boot your server
with the network cable unplugged.  This might help you narrow down the
problem.  I'm recalling a client of mine who had problems starting his CF5
server.  The problem turned out to be that his mail server was running on
the same machine and when people tried to check their mail (usually every
minute or two) the mail service and ColdFusion services would crash.  To
this day I have no idea why but the irony was... when they unplugged it and
brought it over to us we couldn't duplicate the problem.  Took it back over
there... and poof... problems just like magic.

I doubt this is your problem but sometimes it's worth mentioning... just in
case.
