I like the solution of figuring out a way to upload the Access to the
Server, upsize to SQL 2000 - how would I do this programmatically? (it's
only a read only db on the server, no one writes to it) - He will not
use the SQL 2000 on the server to update and manage the db (too slow)
and inconvenient.

Thanks,
Mark

I don't know about this. You might try indexing a portion of the data at
a time, and see if that works.

I don't mean to be glib, but I wouldn't want to use Access for my life's
work. It is possible for you to use SQL Server, and allow your client to
store a copy of the data at his office, although it might make things a
little more complicated for both of you.
