I'm not sure if it'd be much help in this instance since I don't know how applicable it would be to your webservice condition, but I use javascript and <cfflush> to accomplish this ... I don't have the code on me at the moment, let me know if you'd like to see some code and I'll forward you a snippet this afternoon.
