One caveat... There is also an audible notification that can be controlled within CONTROL PANEL>SOUNDS AND MULTIMEDIA> SOUNDS TAB there you will see the Heading of 'Windows', the sound notification played when an email arrives is labeled 'New Mail Notification'. This is associated with a WAV file. If you don't want the .wav file to play you can remove the association also. Then you continue with Igor's suggestions and tell MS Outlook to play the sound file you wish when a email gets in.
Take into consideration I am using Win2k, and it might be a little different for XP or older Win OSs. -AD -----Original Message----- From: Ilyinsky, Igor [mailto:igor.ilyinsky@;csfb.com] Sent: Thursday, November 07, 2002 1:20 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: RE: New Mail Notification in Outlook Ok, Here's what I did...and guess what...It works: 1. Go into 'Tools>Options...>Preferences' and hit the 'email options ..' button, and uncheck 'display a notification when new mail arrives'. 2. Go into the Rules wizard and create a rule that does this: - Check messages when they arrive - With my name in the To field - Notify me with a specific message Since the list's 'To' field is 'CF-Talk' you will not get alerted! I think the highlighting feauture would work, but how do you highlight a message a certain color? I don't see that option anywhere in the rules menu. Also, Tony, the AutoRead custom action that was mentioned earlier will get rid of the envelope icon in the system tray. I already have a rule created so it goes into a seperate > folder, but that is not enough. > Can you not just mark it as READ and highlight it with a colour as part of the message rule? That way the new message notification should ignore it, but when you come to look at CFTalk you should be able to see what's new and remove the highlighting. I must confess I've never tried this though..... (Obsessive compulsive too! And Tony is right...
