I have only used the ActivePDF toolkit. It is really really really easy to get up and running. It uses COM. My experience with ActivePDF is that it has no problems with CFMX. As near as I can tell, that makes me the only living person in existence who has been able to successfully use a COM object w/ CFMX.
I'm not sure about competitors, but I do know that there are other ways to generate PDFs on the fly.
