I'm a little confused. Where will the Win32 application reside, exactly? Will it be on the end-users machine? If so, why not have the Win32 application just fetch the file itself, if it's running? It sounds like the approach you're proposing is a bit backwards. If you are going to proceed this way, good luck - I imagine that it simply won't work in many locations, because of the firewall issue you mention.
