Everyone,

Thanks for the feedback... here is some more data.

The total page file is set to a max of 3 gig -- on the C drive and all of
our CF files and sites are on E.

We have already defrag'd our hard drive recently as well. We have even gone
through NT error logs and CF error logs looking for something. No
"Threading" errors or anything suspicious. This server was even rebuilt
about 3ish months ago.

We do have several large queries, but they don't seem to cause any problems.
We thought it could be email -- since we can send upto 25,000/day so we
moved that off to the same server as the mail server (it didn't stop our
page filing errors).

Plus, if CF was returning several really large queries the memory allocated
to CF in the task manager would say 800 Meg or say 1.5 gig. It doesn't and
this is what is so confusing -- CF has always about 75 to 200 meg.

Could it have something to do with CF Exec? We have had instances with "SQL
Warnings" (truncation warnings for insert queries or CFStoredProc with
Stored Procedures) which will send the server into a restart spiral and even
at times create 2 instances of CF Server if traffic is high enough.
Actually when traffic is high you don't get the warning back to the
browser -- it just restarts CF Server.

Any other ideas? Thanks for the help,

Jeremy

| Subject: CF 5 Page Filing massively... Ideas?
|
|
| Everyone,
|
| We have had a challenge for the last 2 months with no ability to track it
| down and solve it. We are running CF 5 on Win2K with Dual P3 @ 1Ghz and
| 1Gig of Ram. We normally only use about 400-500 meg of ram, but once to
| twice per week right now we are filling up memory to 2.5ish gig and
| massively pagefiling. Database is on another server with same hardware
| config.
|
| We can't restart the CF service when this happens, and the only way to
deal
| with it is to reboot the box.
|
| Part of me thinks the problems is overall load on the box -- average of
| 8000 to 10000 unique visitors on the site per day and this doesn't include
| 500ish members on the system hammering it.
|
| Are there any tools to know what is using up the pagefile memory on Win2k?
|
| Any ideas what could be causing CF to eat up that much memory?
|
| Thanks,
| Jeremy
