I don't remember the exact reasoning (something to do with the value of bonds and the rates they mature at being tied to the economy), but I do remember hearing on public radio ( Fresh Air I think ) that the leap a lot of people have been making to Bonds may actually be a bad thing. Iirc what they said was -- having / buying bonds isn't such a bad thing, but you shouldn't put too much of your portfolio into them because there's a good chance that they will not produce the desired stability that people are buying them for. So if you're heavy in bonds in the hope they'll be stable, it's possible you might wind up with a rude awakening as they fail to mature on time.
