For example, one major fight happening in the Java scene right now is AWT vs. CWT. Both provide GUI widget toolkits that work with Java, but they accomplish it very different ways. AWT is meant to look and feel the same on every platform, while CWT is meant to look and feel like the specific OS it is deployed on.
