I like the idea!

I guess he could use Swing for the GUI.

A while ago, I was pushing for s standalone version of CF that could be
licensed and distributed (on a CD) along with your standalone app.

This would be one way of accomplishing that objective.

There are several things that such a system could be used for:

1) Selling standalone desktop apps

2) Distributing standalone demos of web apps

3) Kiosk apps that run (mostly) standalone and sometimes connect to
headquarters (upload orders, etc).

However, why not use a browser for the GUI (or at least have it as an
option):

1) the browser is the most ubiquitous UI

2) Apache is a very good open-source web server (little overhead,
small footprint)

3) wouldn't need 2 versions/GUIs for each app, web and standalone

4) Several OSes come with Apache already installed and operational
(Linux, Mac OS X)

5) the standalone app would be available/integrate with the local
network

6) the standalone app could inetgrate/interface with the web

7) the desktop app could be the user component/interface to an online
app furnished by an ASP.

This is one of those ideas, that if it ever gets implemented, would
find a multitude of uses --
