Passive FTP is off.  It is still having problems and I finally lost
connection on my Synchronization altogether.  I seem to be still
fighting it.

well unicode & pre-mx cf isn't such a hot idea anyways. is your data
unicode? then thats your issue. with cf5 the normal course was to use:
<meta
http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=iso-8859-1">

if this isn't working for you, i guess we need to look at what else is
going
on. text coming from db? text ok in the db? what db? what is being shown
on
yoru cf pages? boxes ([]) or question marks (?) or something else?
