We seem to be having some trouble tracking down the source of some
performance issues. Usually, our site just flies, but toward the end of the
business day, sometimes our servers seem to be lagging. CPU and memory
utilization is low and the database doesn't seem to be under unusual load.
Besides, other servers connecting to it are fine.

I'm seeing a LOT of 109 and 232 NT errors in my server.log, usually
sandwiching a template that took longer than 30 seconds and near "Unable to
write reply -- client browser stopped waiting for request" errors.

Something's not right here, but I don't know what else to look at. Does
anyone have any suggestions?

I have a BigIP loadbalancing in front of a cluster of half a dozen IIS/CF5
servers, which all connect to an Oracle database running on Solaris.

Windows 2000 Advanced Server
IIS 5
ColdFusion 5 Enterprise
Oracle 8.1.6

The web servers have the Oracle 8i client installed and use the Merant 3.70
ColdFusion OEM 32-bit Oracle8 ODBC driver. (I have the DataDirect Oracle 4.1
drivers and the Merant 3.60 drivers available, so I could up- or downgrade
if necessary. We're planning to upgrade to Oracle 9 in the near future, but
need the system to be more stable.)

Where should I look? As I said, for most of the day everything flies. Then
one or two servers get bogged down for no apparent reason. Rebooting the
server clears the problem. However, nothing on the server seems to be in a
bad way (i.e., CPU utilization is normal (approx. 5%), pings, disk space and
service checks all pass, etc.) I don't know if I should even be looking on
the CF server at this point.

Any help would be appreciated.
