I know one of the people who has disappeared. He's working on spectra a
lot, it seems, and he's pretty busy with some personal stuff. He still
monitors the list (he commented about the most recent flame war) but he's
not active on the list anymore. It doesn't seem like he's forsaken cf-talk
for some other cf community though.
