No, Val returns a number from a string that begins with a value that could
be considered numeric. Because of the typeless nature of CF, that number may
be a floating point or an integer. For example, the code below would output
123.05:

<cfset myvar = "123.05AZ">
<cfoutput>#Val(myvar)#</cfoutput>
