Exchange is about as good as they come. They use it here. Unfortunately,
from a developer's point of view, it can be frustrating when writing
applications that send/receive email. Our ColdFusion server is hosted
remotely and is proving to be very good at expediently sending out
application generated emails. At my end (the Exchange end) it can take
anything up to an hour to receive the message if I'm sending them to myself
for testing purposes.

Quite frustrating. I suppose I could always use HoTMaiL :)

We missed you at the MXDU too Sean!

It's a reasonable (and obvious) solution for a worldwide company with
over 1,000 staff who need to coordinate email, calendars and tasks. Not
that it's relevant, but we used to use a simple smtp/pop system for
email and Meeting Maker for calendars... it should be obvious that
Exchange represents a more coherent corporate solution.

My previous company was about 150 staff in two locations (London, UK
and Redwood Shores, CA) and we used MS Exchange too - with the primary
server in the UK and the secondary server in the US. I administered the
US server. Everyone here knows what I think of Windows and Microsoft
software in general(!) but it was a piece of cake to administer
Exchange, even in the dual server, transatlantic environment.
