users on t1's or not - on high traffic sites it can reduce bandwith too.
(Not directed at Dave or anyone specifically - everyone has their own 
rules and circumstances - and if it works it works)

On one of my client;s sites - they made the time investment to thumbnail 
all the products. They cut their bandwith bill in half. In our case 
though - he pays me well for the time to give each pic attention. Every 
pic doesn't work well at 100 px wide so special cropping is necessary 
often times.

just some input. Instead of having the webserver or tags do all the 
work. I would personally batch process in fireworks or photoshop and 
upload them.
I have a case that shows a default manufacture logo if the thumbnail 
version of a pic isn't found or available.
