Internationalism and numbers can be a lot of fun. After some brief research, I've confirmed what I remember learning and that, no thanks to US imperialism, it is changing. But the UK officially has different definitions of Billion, Trillion, ect.
US 1,000,000 (10^6) = One Million 1,000,000,000 (10^9) = One Billion 1,000,000,000,000 (10^12) = One Trillion Old UK 1,000,000 (10^6) = One Million 1,000,000,000,000 (10^12) = One Billion (One Million Squared) 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 (10^18) = One Trillion (One Million Cubed) You can see where to a British person, our National Debt of 4.5 Trillion (4,500,000,000,000,000,000) is even more surprising to them then it is to us (4,500,000,000,000). And why it is always good to use scientific notation for large numbers 10^12 = 10^12 everywhere. http://www.hsu.edu/faculty/worthf/googol.html PS. Just imagine the stroke of genius a US president could claim by adopting the UK convention, our debt would instantly "only" be 4.5 billion! *S* Sorry if I got a bit off topic with this, just remember it's Friday. -------------- Ian Skinner Web Programmer BloodSource Sacramento, CA -----Original Message----- From: Eric Creese [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, June 06, 2003 2:04 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: RE: i will sell domain cftop.com Ok I guess everyone is aware of the currency format except for me the "Arogant, imperialist-capitalist from the United States who does not care what else happens outside of the USA BOX"! -----Original Message----- From: Dave Watts [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, June 06, 2003 4:02 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: RE: i will sell domain cftop.com > > Domain name expires in june 14 (in 8 days) and i dont > > want to renew it. Uh, I'm guessing that Mr. Python (in Brazil, I think) is using the European format for numbers, and is asking for one hundred dollars.
