You're kidding right? > I don't know about IIS, but I do know that > Apache will let you block requests in a variety of ways, including IP > address and/or domain names, so I believe you could fairly effective > stop certain people from visiting your site. IIS does have the ability to block specific IP addresses, IP ranges, or specific domains. > However I really don't > understand why you would want to do something like this. The same thing you gain by locking your house when you go to work. Someone could break in the window or just kick in the door... so why bother locking your house in the first place right? ;-) While someone COULD bypass his security at least he's made it more difficult for them. I really don't know his content or what he's trying to protect, so it's a tough call. But there are MANY websites out there that actively do this... everything from from preventing deep linking to blocking entire IP blocks from their servers. Obviously, the more content you provide to the public, the harder it is to protect from the few. > I think the best you can do is buy yourself a > few hours or days at most before they become aware of updates to your > site since they simply may get lazy about getting around your security. > If that's all you need, I think you can do it. Or if they're just not too bright. I've seen that happen too... even to the point where one company thought the other company went out of business... LOL. Now that's the EXCEPTION, not the rule... some people are just that dense. ;-) I say got for it. Given the fact that it takes almost nothing to implement (just like locking your house)... you might as well do it. -Novak ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?forumid=4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?method=subscribe&forumid=4 FAQ: http://www.thenetprofits.co.uk/coldfusion/faq Get the mailserver that powers this list at http://www.coolfusion.com Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4
