Well, I've been using CF5 to make a living. I guess I'm expecting too much that a product should install with relative ease. There are enough challenges when using an application server that installs properly. I would just fell silly if I upgraded to MX for no real reason, and it cost me a bunch of hours/money/clients. When I get some freetime I'll try it on a dev server or something.

Some people are having problems (those are the ones you hear about) and some people don't have any (typically the ones you DON'T hear about). Several clients of mine have recently upgraded to CFMX in the past few months without issue. Some chose to take the opportunity to upgrade hardware as well and therefore they built a brand new box with a brand new install of Windows 2000 and CFMX. No problems at all. Other clients upgraded their existing CF5.0 boxes and also didn't have any problems with the upgrade/install. They also did not have any problems with any of the updaters so far. The only issues I've personally seen with my clients have been purely with code... typically bad coding practices which needed to be fixed. After the initial brain damage was over (finding/fixing code) they have not had any problems. Let's face it, it's a gamble any time you install anything new, update code, or write new code. That's why we have development boxes and production boxes. I strongly recommend to all of my clients that they upgrade their production boxes first and let them run for several weeks before they even think of touching their production boxes... and even then... as always... BACK UP YOUR PRODUCTION SERVERS JUST IN CASE.
