I always start scheduled events that I want to be continuous at 1 Jan
2000, never had a problem so far, I suspect this isn't the problem.

I think this is nearer the core of the problem.  This Intranet is not
just HTTPS protected but you have to do a NT login as well to get into
the site, but even using full admin username / pw in the scheduled event
has no effect.
