I should also say that ASIDE from the installation hassles a few months ago, once I got it installed, it's been thoroughly reliable and rock solid ever since. In that period I've had virus attacks, a trojan attempt and an unstable MSOutlook, and they've had no affect on CFMX. The only issues I've had with CFMX since I got it installed have been to do with my learning how to use the new features and tags. In other words, syntax and things like that. An education issue.
Despite the impression I might have created, I am VERY positive about the MX version of CF. I waited a long time to switch, mostly because my main client is going to remain at CF5.0 and WinNT for the foreseeable future, so I had the need to keep CF5 around. Now I have new clients who are using CFMX so I have a need for it. I'm sold. I think the new version is great. I like the new error messages better. I like the debugging FAR better! I like CFCs. I like the fact that I haven't used any tags in my old apps that don't work in the new version, so everything I've done over the last couple of years for CF5 still works in CFMX. I have done a little bit of tinkering around with Flash Remoting and while I wasn't a big fan of flash before, I am a definite fan of Flash Remoting. I can see lots of applications for that in my work. I like the ease with which I can syndicate data between my sites using web services. That is a HUGE step forward. ( I have a number of similar but separate sites and sharing content is a big issue for me ) And I LOVE the way the MX suite of programs all inter-relate. I thought that was a big step forward when MS integrated the office programs together into a suite, and I think it's a big step forward now with Macromedia. I think the easy way to jump out of DreamweaverMX to FireworksMX to amend a button or logo and jump back again is fantastic. Yep. Colour me CFMX blue. Actually, I haven't had a problem on WinXP Pro. I installed CFMX with U3 on my laptop which runs WinXPPro with a whole bunch of software and security patches, including McAfee AntiVirus Online installed, along with 30 Gigs of other junk, and it works great. I use it as a development/demo system. -- Josh Trefethen [snip] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?forumid=4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?method=subscribe&forumid=4 FAQ: http://www.thenetprofits.co.uk/coldfusion/faq Signup for the Fusion Authority news alert and keep up with the latest news in ColdFusion and related topics. http://www.fusionauthority.com/signup.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4
