Thanks for the recommendation, Peter. I'll say that as a co-author of the ColdFusion MX Bible (along with Adam and David Churvis and Hal Helms), we wanted very much to offer a book that went beyond the normal "0-60" style. Sadly, the publishers wouldn't allow us to leave newcomers behind. But we did strive very much to create a very complete book that would be of value to even intermediate/advanced CFML developers.
One especially important point about our book is that, being as new as it is (just released a couple months ago), it's one of the very few books that DID NOT come out concurrent with the new release. Obviously, that means we were able to write it based on the final release (rather than the beta), and we all know how things changed or how little-known features became more apparent after the release. That alone should make it more valuable. But another great benefit is the expansive reference section. The work of "team Churvis", it's especially intended to fill a gap in the literature. So far, the reviews on Amazon are encouraging that we've hit the mark. Of course, no book satisfies all needs, and inevitably someone will complain about it. :-) But I hope you'll check it out, Taco. You can get it at Buy.com for $31.50 and Amazon for $35 new. Of course, it's also available used at amazon for $30 as of today, but I'll throw in that while you can save a couple bucks buying it used, keep in mind that publishers use sales to determine whether a market deserves to have books published for it. Most know that the CF market is quite saturated and also relatively weak in terms of sales. Buying it new is a vote for CF publishing. (And I'm not getting royalties, having written my chapters as works for hire to keep my options open for other related titles, so buying it new has no direct financial impact on me. Just pointing it out as something to keep in mind that may not be obvious.) /charlie > -----Original Message----- > From: Peter Tilbrook [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Friday, July 04, 2003 11:46 PM > To: CF-Talk > Subject: RE: CFMX Book > > > ColdFusion MX Bible from Wiley (http://www.wily.com) is another > good one.
