well I went down this road
I am not sure if you are set on a cf based chat room however I have used a
chat room hosting service called digi chat for my cf site and it allows you
to set it up easily to recognise cf driven database variables such as user
name etc so that once a user has logged into your cf site and enters the
chat room they the digitchat software detects their login name and any other
details re the user from the database.
if you would like to see it in operation please go to the website I have

members) and then proceed to the chat room to see the look and feel of digi
chat rooms
it is a dedicated chat room so only members of my cf site can access the
chat room and as the developer / administrator of the site I can set a full
range of functions to apply to the chat room and alter then using the digit
chat interface at any time such as guest speakers; banner adds in the chat
room prohibited words and many other features
well anyway I hope this has been of some assistance to you and to anyone
else out there looking for a easy way to set up a cf compatible chat room on
their site
