You first need to find out how the data is stored on the unix box... is it 
an oracle database / a postgresql database / some other database?

If you don't know perhaps you can get to that info via the application 
using the database... what is the application name? Assuming of course that 
it is not homegrown...

Need something to go on besides it's unix... or at least I do.
