They are indeed.  I personally built both servers from scratch.

The only difference is in the database servers.  We have a production 
database and a development database, and both of them run MS-SQL Server 
2000 (soon to be upgraded to Oracle).  We know that there are subtle 
differences between the two databases, but we've never been able to pin 
them down.  When this particular problem first cropped up, one of the 
things we tried was hooking out development web server up to our production 
database server to see if there was any change in behavior.  There was no 
change.

I'm comparing the code on both the production and development 
servers.  It's possible that one of our programmers did something weird to 
our code base before being laid off.
