Having had both the luxury and disadvantages of working alone for the past 5 years or so I've never really found a need for version control software. However, I am now working with others and have recently lost about a weeks worth of work after some files were accidently overwritten. We thought Dreamweaver would prevent this, but it appears to have happened. It's in the past. We are now very interested in version control software with the following features. Rollback to previous versions of a file. Check out capaiblity so no more than one person can have a file checked out. Possibly a comparison feature. Compare development site to production site. Or developer A's files to developer B's files. I am looking for input from developers who have used version control software. Are there other features I should be considering? What are your thoughts about Visual SourceSafe compared to other products? Are there other products worthy of serious consideration?
