Thanks Mike, I had actually already done that, but this:

DROP INDEX DocID

or

DROP INDEX T_Docs.DocID

didn't seem to work. I just couldn't figure out the correct syntax. So I 
thought that perhaps Access actually gave the indexes some kind of internal 
name, like DocIDIdx or something.

I eventually got the syntax though, I figured it out. This worked:

DROP INDEX DocID ON T_Docs
