But CFMX *requires* a JVM in order to run at all and when you install CFMX, it installs a JVM for you (CFMX 6.1 installs Sun's JRE 1.4.2 for example). It sounds like some bizarre configuration problem on your server - server mappings should not require any additional setup, they should just work. As for the directory browse applets in the CF Admin, that's a separate issue - for example, they don't work on Mac OS X (I don't remember why but it is mentioned in the Release Notes and/or the Known Issues list) but mappings still work just fine on OS X.
