Code I write at work, I don't feel comfortable releasing open source. And much of that code, if I could release it, would take a lot of work to make generic enough to serve a useful open source purpose. Or the code is so task specific that it would be pointless to release it.
Code I write at home, I own, but it's either too task specific or just too darn generic to release. And by the second part, I mean, it's code that any CFer with more than 40 hours of coding experience could write it, and probably with less hassle than it would take to modify my code.
Finally, I'm also not a big open soure user. I often check the various code exchanges when I need code for a specific task, but I often find the code needs so much reworking that I might as well write the stuff from scratch anyway.
And one of the issues above -- few open source CFers use any kind of coding standards. Those that do are using FuseBox, which I don't use (I've developed my own standards), so open source code is almost always hard for me to integrate into my projects.
I'm a big believer in code reuse. I have a huge collection of snippets. I also have a folder of a generic web site that gives me all the code I use to start every site I build. But this is all code I've developed myself to suit my own purposes. And now with my learning HomeSite scripting, I'm getting even deeper into code reuse. But I find CF so easy to write, so quick to develop with, that other people's code is rarely that useful to me.
