CFMX stand-alone JDBC error when connected to network

If my laptop is connected to my home network or my work network, I get the following error when trying run CFMX scripts. The scripts work fine when I kill the connection though.

[Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket. Connection refused: connect

Windows 2000
SQL Server 2000
ColdFusion MX 6.1 stand-alone

Anyone seen anythinglike this?
