Its easy for people to yak about features but nobody wants to help out.
I'm sure you get a lot of that.  Sorry, but all I was offering were
constructive suggestions to help the editor along.

No, you're missing the point.  I get requests *constantly* from end
users to be able to upload pdf's, word docs etc *into* their pages.
They want to be able to click a dialog on the editor's toolbar and place
an inline link on the page.  It is only a very minor variation on an
image upload editor, it is the identical concept, and it drives me nuts
that so few editors implement this.

The original htmlarea tag did it years ago (the really old one that was
for-pay).  The FCKEditor does it now, and I have to say they got the
concept exactly right with a simple, intuitive user experience.  Click
the 'link' icon on their editor and look at browse and 'send file to the
server' buttons in that dialog.  This is perfect for both uploading
non-images, or linking larger images to smaller ones (i.e. 'click to
enlarge').

Match or improve this and you are well on your way to a better
mousetrap.
