Should there be some sort of argument in the cfif ?  Like =0?

  It's failing on a null. If you want no value to show up as $0.00, then you
  can do something like so:

  <cfif len(trim(yourdollarfield))>
  #dollarformat(yourdollarfield)#
  <cfelse>
  #dollarformat(0)#
