Slightly OT: Hosting AV Files

I've been asked to find out how hard it would be to make some digitally recorded audio and video available for downloading on our site.  Does anyone have any suggestions on software, both to get the files ready to download (editing, etc.) and serving software on the webserver.  We use IIS, do we need anything else to serve up the files?  Any suggestions for a good how-to reference?
