You may have to change the restore setting for the file. There is an options tab when you restore. You will have to put the directory were you want the files to go on the new machine if the directories are different.

ok, i did a backup on one of the databases, cos the drive was gonna be formatted.  Now, all thoughtall the DB stuff went into the BACKUP folder in the MSSQL directory when u make a backup, so thats the only file i copied.  O now I am setting up another SQL station and it's not taking that file!  I didnt know I was supposed to copy some mdf file ahhh!!!!

What do I do?  is there some way?  i looked through this backup file and I see all the tables names and eveyrthing so there must still be a way.  please help :-(
